FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How and where do we get a marriage license?
Generally speaking, your marriage license must be applied for in person by both of you. Couples sometimes ask me to get the marriage license for them, but that is not possible. In Arizona, the cost is $76.
The license issued by any Arizona County Clerk's office can be used anywhere in the state of Arizona. Please visit the website for your County Clerk's office for more information:

Do we need blood tests?
No. The state of Arizona does not require blood tests.
Is there a waiting period?
There is no waiting period requirement. The marriage license will be issued the day of application.
For how long is the license valid?
The license is valid for 12 months from the date of issuance. You must marry within that 12 months or the license will expire.
Do we need to have witnesses?
Arizona does not require witnesses to sign the marriage license.
What happens to the license after our ceremony?
After the ceremony, I will complete the license and turn it in for you. There is no charge for this service. You may also turn the license in yourself. It must generally be returned within 10 business days of the ceremony date, either in person or by mail. The detachable portion of the license, which is completed and signed by me, is to be returned to the Clerk’s Office for recording purposes.
How do we get copies of our marriage certificate?
You will need to contact your County Clerk's office to order copies of your marriage certificate. They will not generally send them to you. I can technically order a copy of your certificate for you, but I do not suggest that. There are many options available for you in terms of the type of certificate that you can order and it is simple for you to speak with the County Clerk's office or even use their online or automated ordering systems.
Do we as the couple sign the license?
Arizona does not require couples to sign the marriage license. I usually ask couples if they would like me to sign the license after the ceremony with them and a photographer as a photo opportunity.
